Toronto Comicon Empty Toronto Comicon

Toronto Comicon, Comic Con or Comic-Con are slang ways of saying Toronto Comic Book Convention and a few companies have used the term to promote comic book conventions in the city of Toronto, Canada.

Examples:

* Hobby Star Marketing, who also put on the annual Fan Expo Canada (the comic book subdivisions of that annual event is referred to as the 'Canadian National Comic Book Expo", later designated simply the "Comic Book Expo"). HobbyStar brands their single day fall and winter shows as "Toronto ComiCON", as well as a 2-day event in the spring that includes one of the days designated as the annual "Fan Appreciation Day" which includes a free admission program held in conjunction with participating Toronto-area comic book stores. All HobbyStar events are held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Fans have been known to refer to Fan Expo Canada as the Toronto Comic-Con, as it is a comic book convention in Toronto, but that is not the event's official name.

* Toronto comic book store Paradise Comics, used to hold an annual event that was called at first the Toronto Comicon, but was later referred to as the Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon. Between 2003 and 2007 these events were held on the grounds of the Canadian National Exhibition. In 2008, after the departure of one of the show's co-founders to work for Hobbystar.[1], Paradise moved to a downtown hotel and then went on hiatus. On June 24, 2009 it was announced via press release that Wizard Magazine owner Gareb Shamus had purchased the Toronto Comicon from Paradise Comics and would be relaunching the event in 2010 as the Wizard World Toronto Comic Con.

* Wizard Entertainment launched a Wizard World Toronto Comic-Con in March 2010, having acquired the convention from Paradise Comics and re-launched the former well-regarded comic book convention as a multi-media show with increased emphasis on celebrities, reality tv performers and wrestlers.
